OPDL Azzurri talent matched with generosity as they award Charity Shield donation to Sick Kids Hospital!

logo opdl charity shield 2015The best of the best in Ontario were in action at the OPDL Charity Shield on the weekend of November 5th, 2016 and our Vaughan Azzurri were there! Vaughan Azzurri 2002 and 2001 Boys OPDL squads had the opportunity to showcase their talent against other top OPDL talent in the presence of fellow OPDL members, scouts and families. As the champions from the East and West U-14 and U-15 boys and girls divisions took on one another, in a one game winner-take-all Charity Shield Showcase. There was a $5 admission fee charged to all spectators – all for a great cause, as all funds were donated to any Ontario charity of choice, which would be selected by the winning team of each match.

The U-15 Boys OPDL Charity Shield featured Ottawa South United, the Eastern Conference champions, taking on Vaughan Azzurri, the champions from the West. This thrilling match would end in penalties and Vaughan was near perfect winning 4-3. Read more: Vaughan Wins U-15 Boys OPDL Charity Shield In A Thriller.

The U-14 Boys OPDL Charity Shield featured the Eastern division winner, Vaughan Azzurri, taking on the Western champ, West Ottawa in a one game winner-take-all. This was a close match where our Azzurri edged West Ottawa 2-1 in this exciting match! Read more: Vaughan Edges West Ottawa In U-14 Boys OPDL Charity Shield.

vsc supports sick kids 2017More recently, our Vaughan Azzurri 2001 and 2002 OPDL boys travelled to Toronto and presented Hospital for Sick Children with a donation from the Charity Shield showcase. The team presented Brianna Fodey, Coordinator of Events at Sick Kids Foundation, with a cheque for $1,610! At events like this one, it is clear that our talent is matched by our generosity and compassion. All of us here at Vaughan Soccer wish to thank all the players who took part in the Charity Shield competition and represented the club with dignity and pride! The future of soccer in Vaughan has never looked brighter, with our high-performance program is in full swing, our club is attracting a lot of attention. Earning many awards in 2016, Vaughan Soccer continues to grow through the leadership of our technical leaders, such as Carmine Isacco [2016 League1 Coach of the year] and Sergio Deluca [Recognized by OSA at the 2016 OPDL Presidents meeting].
